Dave is a Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern who received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Social Work from West Virginia University. He practiced in various settings including a State Psychiatric Facility, Community Counseling Centers, and Outreach Treatment on the streets of Washington, DC before pursuing a successful career in business. Prompted specifically by the veteran suicide epidemic and, more generally, the mental health/opioid crises in the USA, he answered the call to return to full-time counseling here at Florida Counseling Centers to address these issues with the intense focus and urgency they deserve.
Dave brings a unique blend of real-world experience and strong faith to his clinical practice and leverages it to assist people in a solution-focused, pragmatic way. Most of his career has been spent as a business executive and entrepreneur, while also serving in various capacities within the Salvation Army and non-denominational churches. All this has informed his practice and yielded a therapist who is skilled in assisting people with their quest to achieve optimal functioning and life satisfaction, rooted in a personal connection with a loving and graceful God.
If you are still wondering why Dave looks familiar, it may be because you have seen him running around the Space Coast or featured in various media outlets. He is best known as a former obese, heavy smoker turned World record holding endurance athlete and speaker who has been featured in USA Today, Runner’s World, Men’s Health, as well as many different traditional media outlets and podcasts. He has run over 100 marathons and ultra-marathons, Ironman Triathlons, 100-mile footraces, and other extreme endurance feats, leaving him firmly convinced that we all possess great untapped potential even if we don’t use it for endurance sports like he does.
